About the Lodge

Rhulani Safari Lodge offers five star bushveld accommodation in the Madikwe Game Reserve, which is situated in the North West Province of South Africa. Under the control of "Operation Phoenix", the largest game translocation in the world, the reserve was established to restore farmland to its former natural environment.

The adventure begins the moment you arrive at Rhulani Safari. An unforgettable welcome awaits you at the main lodge, and as Rhulani means "relax" the staff at Rhulani will make sure your holiday is just that.

Accommodation

Rhulani is made up of 7 luxurious en-suite chalets, each with spectacular views of the bush, indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, mini bar and a private deck and plunge pool. There is one luxury two bed roomed family suite with private deck, lounge area, plunge pool, two en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor shower, air-conditioning and mini bar.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at Rhulani.
There are a wide range of games for the children to keep themselves occupied with, as well as a T.V and dvd player which can be installed into the chalet or family room. Babysitters are also available should parents wish to go out on a game drive alone and if need be, meals for children may be arranged for different times to those of the adults.

Dining

Dining alfresco under the exquisite African night sky, around a roaring fire is the perfect way to end a perfect day. Traditional Southern African cuisine is complimented by a selection of world-class local wines.

The Reserve

Experience day and night game drives in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve where the Big Five, Cheetah and the endangered Wild Dog can be viewed or experience the peace of the wilderness on a guided walk. Guests typically encounter three to four of the Big Five in a single game drive and are also likely to see the endangered Wild Dog and Cheetah.

Guests will be able to experience the positive results of 'Operation Phoenix', the largest translocation program of wildlife ever attempted, where 60 000 animals of many species were settled in Madikwe Game Reserve.

Private Chalet

Peak Season: a minimum stay of a 3 night stay may be required

Children
Rhulani accept a maximum of 1 (one) child sleeping in the Private Chalet on a stretcher bed;

  • children between the ages of 0 and 5 years stay free of charge;
  • children between the ages of 6 and 15 years pay 50% of the per person adult rate when sharing the room with two adults;
  • children above 15 years sleep in their own room

Family Unit

Children Policy

  • Children of all ages are welcome! 
  • Children under 12 are permitted on safari at the sole discretion of the field guide
  • Children under the age of 6 are not permitted on safariunless booked on a private vehicle.
  • A bumble drive can be organized in such cases after breakfast.
  • Rhulani offers a complimentary children’s kit. There is a kiddie’s corner equipped with toys and DVD’s. We offer a children’s menu option. Babysitting service is available at an extra costs.

Check-in & check-out times

  • Check-in time is 2.00 pm
  • Check-out time is 11.00 am

We try as much as possible to adapt the day's program to your individual arrival and departure times. However, at high occupancy we must adhere to our strict times in the interest of all guests.
Check-out times are binding. For late arrivals to participate in the afternoon game drive is no longer possible.

Game Drives

  • Our game drives take place under the guidance of qualified rangers in open vehicles. The maximum number of guests on the vehicle is 10 (ten).
  • The allocation of the guests to the two vehicles is under the responsibility of the Ranger, and we try to consider the customer wishes as good as possible.
  • Morning game drive departs from reception between 05h00am (January) and 06h30am (July).
  • Afternoon game drive departs after High Tea between 15h00 (July) and 16h30 (January).
  • Please note that the departing times of game drives are subject to seasonal changes and depend on weather conditions.
  • Exact departing times are communicated to the guest atcheck-in.

Situated close enough to Johannesburg and Pretoria to assure valuable time is not lost in transport logistics, yet remote enough to provide the ultimate break. A conference booking is on an exclusive usage basis, the entire lodge is available for conference use ensuring groups have total flexibility with their itinerary. Fly-ins and chartered bus transport can be arranged for delegates convenience, arrive in style and make the most out of the event.

Vehicle Transfers

Transfers can be arranged from within South Africa and from Botswana.
These can be booked through us.

Flights

There is a scheduled Federal Air flight that flies in and out of the Reserve daily. Should you wish to charter a plane to suit your own time frame this can be arranged through Madikwe Charters.

Self Drive

From Johannesburg, head north west on R24 to Magaliesburg. Once in Magaliesburg, follow route 509 to Derby, Koster and Swartruggens. From Swartruggens, follow the N4 Toll Road to Zeerust. Once in Zeerust, turn right at Gabarone/Madikwe signs on route R49. Enter Madikwe Game Reserve at the Wonderboom Gate, 97 km north of Zeerust. Pass the Abjaterskop Gate first entrance to Madikwe, 7 km before the Wonderboom Gate.
