The Lodge....

On the far Northern border of South Africa lies an enchanted town known as the Groot Marico. Lounging in its own spectacular setting, the Tau Game Lodge is situating in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.

Built in 1995, this privately owned game lodge gazes across an enormous waterhole, which attracts the vast variety of game and birdlife.

Tau "The Place of the Lion" is an easy 4 hours drive from Johannesburg or 50 minute flight from Johannesburg International airport.


The Main Lodge...

This luxurious safari lodge is designed to reflect the natural surroundings of Madikwe.
The Main Lodge boasts a comfortable lounge, a conference room, bar and dining room which are all semi open-air and overlook the waterhole.

Mouth-watering buffet breakfasts and lunches are served in the main building or on the verandah next to the plunge pool. A scrumptious dinner is enjoyed in one of the cosy boma's under the stars, or in the lapa next to the main lodge.


Accommodation...

The décor and furnishings of Tau Game Lodge are all Africa-inspired and the rooms are equipped with both air-conditioning and ceiling fans.
Thirty rustic thatched chalets are spread out in a U-formation on either side of the lodge, offering exceptional views of wildlife approaching the water from the opposite bank.

Each chalet has its own wooden game viewing deck, allowing you to experience the bush in your own privacy. The chalets are also equipped with an en-suite bathroom and open-air shower, for that real bush feeling.

Each of the two corner units, have been linked to the next-door unit by a communal outdoor lounge. These chalets can be utilised for two couples travelling together or for parents with small children sharing the room.


Wedding Venue...

For those couples who share the love of the African Bush, Tau is the ideal spot for a uniquely memorable wedding. As no other wedding venue can offer the romance of the African sunset as a backdrop quite like Tau can.

The Lodge can host and accommodate the smaller intimate weddings Taking over the Lodge for a wedding has definite advantages, in that the whole day can be designed to suit the couple's needs and guests don't have to drive home afterwards.

We offer a personalised and professional service for the event and a flexible package to suit both your budget and personal style.

This very special, and often fairly stressful day, can be turned into an extraordinary occasion, focused on spending quality time with dear friends and close family in a relaxed environment at our South African wedding venue in the wild.

Conference Facilities...

The main hall of this conference venue (270m² in total) is made up of three sub-halls. Each of these sub-halls can operate independently or together via a touch-screen control system. (11m x7.6 m each)
High quality, strategically placed equipment has been installed in all 3 sub-halls and all the systems have been integrated and configured to maximize performance and enhance aesthetic qualities.
All three sub-halls include:

• Wall-mounted presentation speakers
• Motorised 2.5m x 1.m screens working in sequence with the audio system
• Motorised window blinds (open & close in conjunction with chosen audio-visual setting)
• High-resolution projectors
• Network points
• Telephone points and Facilities to connect to the main building

The Reserve….

Tau Game Lodge is part of a unique wildlife project.

Madikwe, a South African private game reserve created in 1991 from 75,000 ha of farmland, which had been extensively degraded by overgrazing. The government sponsored, largest ever game relocation programme in Africa, ‘Operation Phoenix’, involved re-stocking and the conservation both flora and fauna, which had long since disappeared from the region.

Ten thousand animals of the 27 major species, including wild dog, cheetah, lion, white and black rhino, buffalo and elephant, have been re-introduced to the Madikwe Game Reserve.
